Ghana’s vibrant celebration of culture, creativity and community service is marking a major milestone this July as the Dashiki Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary with an expanded programme of sports, fashion, music and wellness under the theme “#RiseWithMJtheComediam.”

The five-day festival will run from 14–18 July 2026, bringing together thousands of young people and creatives.

What began as a community health walk has evolved into one of Ghana’s most anticipated youth-driven cultural festivals, promoting healthy living while creating opportunities for fashion designers, athletes, musicians and content creators to showcase their talents.

This year’s landmark edition features an eight-team football tournament (14–16 July), a retro-inspired Dashiki Fashion Competition (17 July), and the flagship Dashiki Health Walk and cultural celebration on 18 July.

Participants can also expect aerobics sessions, live musical performances, dance competitions, interactive games and family-friendly entertainment throughout the festival.

Festival founder Timothy Musa Jnr. Abaadu, whose showbiz name is MJtheComedian said the 10th edition is more than a celebration of longevity – it is a reflection of the resilience and growth of young people who have made the festival their own.

“When we started this journey ten years ago, the vision was simple – to use culture to unite people and inspire healthier lifestyles. Today, Dashiki Festival has become a platform where young people discover opportunities, celebrate their identity and create lasting memories. #RiseWithMJtheComedian is an invitation for everyone to believe that no matter where you begin, you can rise.”

Reflecting on the anniversary theme, MJtheComedian said the festival has consistently evolved by listening to the aspirations of Ghanaian youth.

“This year’s theme represents growth, resilience and possibility. We are celebrating every volunteer, every sponsor, every participant and every young person whose life has been touched by Dashiki Festival over the past decade. Their stories are the reason we keep raising the bar.”

The football tournament will open the festival by giving community teams a competitive platform while strengthening social bonds through sport. The grand finale on 16 July will be headlined by title sponsor 1xBet, highlighting the company’s continued investment in youth-centred initiatives.

The fashion competition on 17 July will challenge emerging designers and tailors to reinterpret classic Dashiki/Angelina patterns and styles through modern creativity, celebrating Ghana’s rich fashion heritage while providing exposure for upcoming talent.

The celebrations will culminate on 18 July with the signature Dashiki Health Walk, expected to attract thousands of participants dressed in colourful dashiki prints as they walk through the streets from Ghana International Trade Fair Center, La, then through Osu and turning at the Independence Square and returning to La Wireless Astroturf before joining an afternoon of music, dance and cultural performances.

MJtheComedian believes the festival’s greatest achievement lies not in the number of events organised but in the opportunities created for young people.

“Every football match, every fashion design, every dance performance and every step taken during the health walk tells a story of hope. We want young people to leave this festival inspired to dream bigger, embrace their culture and create positive change in their communities.”

As Dashiki Festival enters its second decade, organisers say the vision remains clear – to build Africa’s leading community festival where culture, creativity, health and youth empowerment come together to inspire a new generation.

With ten years of impact behind it and an ambitious future ahead, the 2026 edition promises to be the biggest celebration in the festival’s history.
