The FIFA World Cup trophy is set to visit Morocco as part of a wide-ranging global tour ahead of the 2026 tournament, offering fans in the country a rare opportunity to see world football’s most prized symbol up close.

FIFA has confirmed that the sixth edition of the World Cup Trophy Tour will begin on January 3, 2026, launching an extensive worldwide journey aimed at building excitement for the expanded finals later that year. The tour will open in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in what FIFA has described as its most ambitious trophy tour yet.

Spanning more than 150 days, the iconic trophy will travel to 75 destinations across 30 FIFA member associations, crossing multiple continents and reflecting the truly global nature of the competition.

Morocco is among the selected host nations, alongside 2026 World Cup co-hosts Canada, the United States and Mexico, as well as future hosts of major international tournaments, including Portugal, Spain, Saudi Arabia and Brazil.

For Moroccan fans, the visit goes beyond a ceremonial appearance. It represents a rare chance to engage directly with the ultimate symbol of the world’s biggest sporting event, underscoring the country’s strong connection to international football and its growing stature on the global stage.

FIFA has framed the tour as a celebration of both the upcoming tournament and the diverse cultures and communities that make up the global football family. Fans at each stop will take part in interactive experiences, branded fan zones, technical challenges and exclusive content, with FIFA Legends expected to attend selected events.

The 2026 edition carries added significance as it marks the 20th anniversary of the Trophy Tour initiative. Since its inception, the programme has become one of FIFA’s most successful fan-engagement platforms, with more than four million supporters across 182 markets participating in previous tours.

FIFA officials have also highlighted the symbolic weight of the upcoming journey, particularly with the 2026 World Cup set to be the largest in history. FIFA Director of Commercial Affairs, Romy Gai, stressed the scale of the project, noting that the trophy has already visited 182 of FIFA’s 211 member associations across five editions.

As anticipation builds toward 2026, the trophy’s stop in Morocco is expected to draw strong public interest and further fuel excitement for the tournament. For many supporters, it will be a moment to celebrate football’s past, present and future, united by the game’s most iconic prize.
