The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has urged police personnel across the country to work diligently and selflessly in order to uphold integrity and safeguard the security of the nation.

He made the call during a promotion ceremony held at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, to honour officers who have distinguished themselves in the line of duty.

Mr. Yohuno said the ceremony was not only meant to reward deserving officers but also to serve as motivation for other personnel nationwide to work harder and remain committed to their responsibilities.

To illustrate the importance of dedication and perseverance, the IGP recounted an incident that occurred about seven to eight years ago on the N1 Highway, where two Community Police Officers pursued suspected armed robbers.

During the operation, one of the officers was shot and killed.

Mr. Yohuno noted that despite the tragic loss, an officer identified as DSP Odame took it upon himself to pursue justice for the fallen colleague.

He explained that even after DSP Odame was transferred to the Ashanti Region, he remained committed to the case, consistently appearing in court to testify over the years.

According to the IGP, the unwavering commitment of DSP Odame eventually paid off, as the court recently sentenced the two armed robbers involved in the case to life imprisonment.

He described DSP Odame’s actions as a true demonstration of selflessness, determination and perseverance, and urged the over 49,000 personnel of the Ghana Police Service to emulate such conduct, stressing that hard work and integrity are always rewarded in due time.

Mr. Yohuno disclosed that in recognition of his exemplary service, DSP Odame has been promoted to the rank of Superintendent.
