Ghana’s Black Queens have been handed a place in Group D of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which will be staged in Morocco from March 17 to April 3.

Kim Lars Björkegren’s side will face Cameroon, Mali and Cape Verde in the group phase, renewing rivalries from the 2024 edition where Ghana met the same opponents.

The Black Queens are set to feature in the tournament for a second consecutive time, having returned to the continental stage last year after missing out since 2018. Their qualification for the 2026 finals was sealed in emphatic fashion, with a dominant 7-1 aggregate victory over Egypt under the guidance of Björkegren.

Elsewhere in the draw, record champions Nigeria headline Group C and will renew their rivalry with Zambia, while also coming up against Egypt and Malawi. Hosts and back-to-back finalists Morocco have been drawn in Group A alongside Algeria, Senegal and Kenya.

The top two teams in each group will advance automatically to the quarterfinals. Ghana will be targeting a deep run in the competition as they chase a return to the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in 19 years, with a semifinal finish enough to secure qualification.

Full group stage draw:

• Group A: Morocco, Algeria, Senegal, Kenya

• Group B: South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Tanzania

• Group C: Nigeria, Zambia, Egypt, Malawi

• Group D: Ghana, Cameroon, Mali, Cape Verde
