Kpandai: NDC leadership disassociates from protest over supreme court ruling

The Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kpandai, Nyong Robert Saparku, has distanced the party’s local leadership from a recent demonstration by some party supporters following the Supreme Court’s decision to quash the planned rerun of parliamentary elections in the constituency.

According to Mr. Saparku, the protest, which saw a number of NDC members and sympathisers take to the streets, was neither sanctioned nor organised by the constituency executives.

He stressed that the NDC has a recognised leadership structure at the constituency level which must be respected at all times, noting that the party was not aware of, and did not approve, any demonstration in the area.

He explained that actions taken without the knowledge and consent of the Constituency Executive Committee do not reflect the official position of the party.

Mr. Saparku expressed concern over what he described as a growing disregard for established party structures and urged members to desist from such conduct. While acknowledging the frustrations of some supporters, he clarified that the protest was the action of a few aggrieved individuals acting on their own initiative.

The constituency secretary called on party supporters to remain calm and to channel their grievances through lawful and peaceful means. He also appealed to security agencies and the general public not to associate the actions of the demonstrators with the official leadership of the NDC in Kpandai.

The Supreme Court’s recent decision to nullify the proposed rerun elections in the constituency has generated mixed reactions among political actors and supporters.

Mr. Saparku reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to democratic principles, internal unity and discipline, adding that the party leadership remains focused on strengthening coordination and cohesion at the constituency level.
