Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has appealed to the Majority caucus to create more space for the Minority to actively engage in legislative advocacy as Parliament resumes sittings.

He made the call during a leadership media briefing ahead of the resumption of Parliament on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, stressing the need for a more inclusive and participatory parliamentary process.

According to Mr Afenyo-Markin, the Minority expects the Majority to be more accommodating in the new meeting to ensure balanced contributions on the floor of Parliament.

“We hold the view that in this meeting, the Majority should be more accommodating; they must hear us. They must allow the Minority to do more advocacy. We expect the Speaker to admit more and more of our motions,” he said.

He noted that much of last year’s parliamentary session was marked by frustration, as several motions from the Minority were declined, limiting their ability to contribute meaningfully to debates and national discourse.

Mr Afenyo-Markin emphasised that effective parliamentary democracy thrives on inclusivity and equal participation, adding that all political stakeholders must be given the opportunity to contribute.

“We think that the essence of parliamentary politics is to give every party stakeholder the opportunity. We look forward to much more engagement on the floor,” he added.
