DOSH Insurance, Ghana’s pioneering digital-first health insurance provider has been honoured with the Innovative Health Financing for Universal Access Award at the recently held 3rd Ghana Development Awards in Accra.

The recognition celebrates DOSH’s growing and pivotal role in reshaping how healthcare is financed and accessed in Ghana, particularly through its mission to provide affordable health insurance to all Ghanaians regardless of income levels.

At the heart of DOSH’s innovation is a simple, mobile-first digital platform that allows individuals and families to enroll seamlessly and begin coverage with premium instalments starting from as low as GH¢1 per day. This approach removes many of the traditional barriers associated with private health insurance and makes health protection practical and accessible for millions of Ghanaians.

The service is also integrated with MoMo from MTN, enabling customers to subscribe directly through the mobile money app, a platform that millions of Ghanaians already trust and use daily.

DOSH offers a range of flexible health insurance packages tailored to different income levels and healthcare needs. For example, the DOSH-365 package provides up to GH¢9,000 in annual medical cover for a premium of GH¢365, while higher-tier packages offer significantly larger coverage limits for individuals, families and businesses. Across its plans, subscribers can access benefits including outpatient care, hospitalisation, diagnostic tests, prescription medication, dental and optical services, chronic disease management and preventive healthcare support.

Beyond affordability and digital convenience, DOSH operates a 24-hour state-of-the-art call centre supported by highly trained customer service professionals who provide prompt assistance and guidance to subscribers whenever they need support. This round-the-clock service ensures that customers receive responsive and reliable support throughout their healthcare journey.

By combining technology, innovative financing, excellent customer service and a deep understanding of everyday Ghanaian realities, DOSH has emerged as a game changer in healthcare access.

Speaking to the press following the recognition, Frank Dagbu, Chief Executive Officer of DOSH Health Insurance, said: “This recognition belongs to every Ghanaian who believes that quality health coverage should not be a privilege reserved for a few.

Too many people delay care or face financial stress because health insurance appears complex or inaccessible. At DOSH we believe innovative financing can fundamentally transform lives across the socioeconomic spectrum.

Our mission has always been simple: to make health protection affordable, accessible, and available through the digital tools Ghanaians already trust.”

DOSH has developed the most extensive nationwide healthcare network, partnering with accredited public and private medical facilities as well as certified alternative healthcare providers to ensure that subscribers receive quality care wherever they are located.

Together, these innovations reinforce DOSH’s core mission: to democratize access to healthcare protection and ensure that affordable insurance is available to all Ghanaians, regardless of income levels or location.

By leveraging digital technology and forward-thinking financing models, DOSH is helping shape the future of healthcare financing and universal health access in Ghana.
