Happy FM’s sports team reports that a significant number of Ghanaians in the UK plan to rally behind the senior national team, the Black Stars, as they face Wales in a FIFA international friendly on a calendar date for FIFA-free matches.

Isaac Gyimah, a Ghanaian and president of Mega Promotions and Events Entertainment in Telford, UK, and Afro culture heritage- Telford emphasised that most Ghanaians in the UK will not travel to watch the upcoming World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the USA. Instead, they will use this match to watch Ghana play against Wales and wish them success at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Wales will face Ghana for the first time in a senior men’s international match at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday, June 2 (KO time to be confirmed).

This will be the first time an African nation plays in Wales. Craig Bellamy’s team will compete against a star-studded Ghana lineup, featuring Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams, and Mohammed Kudus. The Black Stars have already secured their spot in this summer’s FIFA World Cup, where they will compete in a group with England, Croatia, and Panama.

Wales’ only previous men’s international match against an African nation was in June 1998 in Tunis, which included current head coach Craig Bellamy.

Wales’ participation in this summer’s FIFA World Cup in North America depends on the outcome of the March play-off pathway. Bellamy’s team will face Bosnia & Herzegovina on March 26. If they advance, they will play Italy or Northern Ireland in the play-off final on March 31.

Ticket details for the match will be announced soon.
