President John Dramani Mahama has directed his office to obtain the full investigative report by The Fourth Estate concerning the government’s Big Push road projects.

The directive follows revelations that have sparked concerns over procurement practices under the programme, particularly the use of sole sourcing and the potential for inflated contract costs.

The investigation alleges that the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, supervised the award of 81 sole-sourced contracts worth more than GH¢73 billion within a seven-month period.

Addressing Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) during an engagement, the President also instructed the Ministry of Roads and Highways to provide a comprehensive response to the allegations to guide government action.

He acknowledged that while sole sourcing is permitted under procurement laws in specific cases, competitive and transparent tendering processes remain the preferred option to ensure value for money.

The President noted that only portions of the investigation had been circulated in the media so far, stressing the need for a full review of the report and its claims.

He added that the government would carefully study both the findings of the investigation and the ministry’s response before determining the appropriate course of action.
