The Ghana Police Service has intercepted large quantities of suspected narcotic drugs and arrested several suspects following intensified operations in the Upper West Region.

In a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, the Upper West Regional Police Command outlined a series of coordinated intelligence-led operations targeting drug trafficking and abuse across the region.

The operations, conducted over the past four weeks, led to multiple seizures in areas including Eremon in the Lawra District, Nadowli barrier and Loho in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, Charhe and Siriyiri in the Wa Municipality, as well as Hamile in the Lambussie District.

In total, the police retrieved 218 compressed slabs, 54 parcels, and eight other assorted consignments of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

On April 3, 2026, a police patrol team intercepted a Toyota Corolla taxi at Eremon in the Lawra District, where 140 compressed slabs of the suspected substance were discovered. Two suspects, Dennis Domoyel and Clovis Saame, were arrested in connection with the incident.

In a separate operation on April 1, 2026, officers stationed at the Wa-Loho barrier retrieved 51 compressed slabs from a Royal VVIP bus traveling from Wa to Jirapa. Three suspects, Stephen Lomotey, Solomon King, and Urilius Tobopalee were arrested.

The police noted that many of the intercepted consignments were being transported northbound towards Hamile for delivery.

All suspects are currently undergoing various stages of investigation and prosecution, while the vehicles involved have been impounded.

The Regional Command has cautioned transport owners and unions against allowing their vehicles to be used for conveying illicit drugs, warning that such vehicles could be confiscated by the state, in addition to legal action against their owners.

The Command further assured the public of its commitment to combating drug-related crimes and maintaining safety and security in the region.
