The Akatsi District Police Command has commenced investigations into a disturbance at Deti, a suburb of Akatsi in the Volta Region, which resulted in a shooting incident that left two persons injured and caused the destruction of properties.
In a statement issued and signed by Chief Inspector Francis Kwaku Gomado, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Volta Region Police Command, the victims were identified as James Kanda, 44, and Jonathan Kanda, 30, who sustained gunshot injuries during the incident on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
The statement said a Mercedes-Benz private car, two motorbikes and a fence wall were also destroyed during the disturbance.
Preliminary investigations revealed that at about 10:30 a.m. on the day of the incident, some young men, including the two victims, allegedly went to the residence of the suspect, Mensah Awagah, and started pulling down his fence wall.

The Police said the youth later went on a rampage and set ablaze a Mercedes-Benz private car and two motorbikes parked at the suspect’s residence.
Personnel from the Police were called to the scene to assist, but the car and motorbikes had already been burnt beyond recognition before their arrival.
The statement added that suspect Mensah Awagah is currently in Police custody assisting with investigations, while the injured victims are receiving treatment at the Akatsi District Hospital.
