FIRE: Yanked GFA vice president George Afriyie lambastes 'beer and cigarettes' loyalists of Kwesi Nyantakyi

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice-president George Afriyie has launched a fierce tirade at his critics, labeling them as ‘beer and cigarettes’ loyalists.

Mr Afriyie has been fighting back widespread claims of disloyalty and mistrust following his dismissal as the vice-president of the Ghana FA.
The wedge between the two rivals has deepened after he decided to contest his former boss at next year’s presidential election.

The Liberty Professionals director has been largely accused of being disloyal but has been quick to rubbish the claims gaining currency in the West African nation.
“He (Kwesi Nyantakyi) should not allow some people to push him. When I took the pain to talk to club owners, the kind of things I heard, I was shocked,”he told Asempa FM
“The people who come to him now; and I’m saying this . When I hear the word loyalty, loyalty, then I ask myself who is a loyal person? The man who is ready to do anything for you? or the man who come to radio and go and take money and take ‘jot’ (cigarettes) and beer, is he the loyal one?  he quizzed
“I will not come on radio to support Kwesi Nyantakyi and go to his office to take money. I am not one of those.
“I have been supporting the president with my money, my life an everything. I will be the last person.
“Some of us used beer and cigarettes to recruit some of these people to do the bidding of Mr Nyantakyi. Others we used money and some positions.
It appears the battle lines have been drawn for the two men ahead of next year’s Ghana FA presidential election.
It’s unclear if Mr Nyantakyi will seek re-election after publicly stating he will bow out.
But undue pressure from the ruling government and other stakeholders has thrown the battle wide opened.
