Great Olympics top brass advises Asante Kotoko to respect Normalisation Committee decision over Africa no show

Chief Executive Officer of Accra Great Olympics, Oloboi Commodore has insisted that not allowing any club to represent Ghana in Africa is the best and Kotoko must respect the decision of the GFA Normalisation Committee.

After a meeting between the Normalisation Committee and club administrators last Friday, it was unanimously decided that there will be no Ghanaian representative in the 2018/19 CAF Inter-Club competitions following the premature end to the league campaign after the Anas Number 12 documentary.

However, management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko have petitioned the committee over their decision not to allow any club go for Africa.

The Porcupine Warriors are arguing that since they are the current holders of the MTN FA Cup, they reserve the right to participate in the CAF Confederation Cup.

During an interview with Ohene Bampoe–Brenya on Happy FM‘s Anopa Bosuo Sports, Policy Analyst of Asante Kotoko, Amoh Sarpong stated that, “We are interested in representing Ghana in Africa. As holders of the FA Cup, Kotoko has qualified for the Confederation Cup. We are following the laws of the game which is simple and direct.”

Meanwhile, Oluboi Commodore, who was a major voice in taking this decision, disagreed with the demands of the Kumasi-based outfit, claiming that lack of competitive football and past poor performances as a proof to why we should not participate in Africa next season.

“It has already been decided that we are not going to Africa. We want to go for CAF competitions to do well and not just to go and perform poorly. Kotoko has the right to express their desire but we cannot just participate for participation sake,” Oloboi stated on Happy FM.

Ghana has up to October 29 to submit candidates for the Confederations Cup and Champions League after CAF granted the NC an extension to allow them decide on which two teams represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup after the league ended abruptly.
