Former captain of Hearts of Oak Yaw Amankwah Mireku has expressed his disappointment after failing to receive a medal in the wake of the team’s CAF Champions League triumph in 2000.

Today, December 17 marks exactly 18 years since the Phobians clinched the prestigious inter-club championship after inflicting a 5-2 aggregate defeat on Tunisian giants, Esperance.

In recounting the feeling during an interview with Ohene Bampoe-Brenya on Happy FM’s ‘Anopa Bosuo Sports‘, Mireku, who skippered the club, made a shocking claim that he did not receive a medal after the monumental feat.

“Today marking 18 years since we took the CAF Champions League, gives me mixed feelings. I’m sad and happy at the same time. It’s sad because I couldn’t play the second leg and happy because the team won,” Mireku stated on Happy FM.

“I played the first leg but I didn’t get a medal. I couldn’t play the 2nd leg due to my red card.”

“I was the deputy captain of the team and up until today I still don’t understand why I didn’t get a medal when we won.”

“If you come to my house right now there’s nothing that shows that I was part of the Hearts of Oak team that won the Champions League.”
