Government of Ghana has commended its security agencies, specifically the Ghana Police Service and National Security for leading an operation for the successful rescue of the two Canadian ladies who were kidnapped in Kumasi.

Addressing a press briefing in Accra, Wednesday June 12, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, acknowledged the efforts of the Head of Operations at the National Security, Colonel Michael K. Opoku and Commander of the National Security SWAT team, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Kojo Azugu, among others for being instrumental in the operation which is said to have lasted 25 minutes.

“I want to say particular thanks to honorable Kan Dapaah, national security minister… DSP Azugu, Colonel Opoku who is not here, we want to say thank you to you, thank you to the SWAT team for the kind of work you have been putting up, thank you”, he said.

DSP Azugu in the past few months was under the spotlight for his involvement in the Ayawaso West-Wuogon by-election violence and his subsequent appearance before the Emile Short Commission.
