He also informed them that, they are required by law to ensure the “implementation of the aims of the University, determine the strategic direction of UMaT, monitor and evaluate policy implementation, promote income-generating activities as part of the university program, control the finances of the university the university, determine the allocation and proper use of funds, ensure the conservation and augmentation of the resources of UMaT, specifically in relation to matters affecting income or expenditure, ensure the creation of an environment of equal opportunity for members of the university without regard to ethnicity, sex, race religious belief or political affiliation and make professional-level appointment on the recommendation of the appointment committee of the academic board as may be determined in the statutes of the university.”

Prof. Yankah further charged council to be one that would not only identifies problem but also proposes workable solutions.

On his part, Dr. Yirenkyi chairman of the Council thanked President Nana Akufo-Addo for giving them the opportunity to serve, “We are grateful to His Excellency Nana Addo, and we assure him that we shall do exactly what he wants us to do. He has lifted the image of the university from one level to another. The university is a very young one with a very small student number. We are talking about nearly 2500 student population. And that is what we want to see double by 2020. At least to 5000 and then we will be sure we are running a university. And also funds are needed to actualize our dream because without the funds there is very little we can do. We have our new site which is yearning for a start. We need to start it.”
