Members of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) are angry over the Government of Ghana’s silence over their enquiries into the just increased fuel prices.

Speaking on ‘Epa Hoa Daben’, Mr. Francis Annor a member of the GPRTU has stated angrily that, ‘’fuel prices on the world market has not been increased but the increment has started taking effect in the country which is unfair”.

According to him if the government does not revise and approve transport fares by next week, members of GPRTU will start charging their revised fares without government’s approval.

He lamented to Kwame Afrifa, the host of the show that, drivers need fuel to move their vehicles and they get that money from the fares they collect from passengers justifying the increment.

He also added that, passengers should not think commercial bus drivers run a charity and will duly increase fares to enable them also put food and the table for their families.

Ghanaians woke up on Monday, 2nd September, 2019 to an announcement of the increase in the prices of petroleum products by the Government. This follows a directive by the state regulator, the National Petroleum Authority to Oil Marketing Companies to commence the application of what the Government calls “revised Energy Sector Levies” which were earlier announced by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta in his 2019 mid-year Budget Review.
