Ministers, other appointees donate 50% of salaries to fight coronavirus

All Ministers of State, the Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Secretary to the President, Presidential Staffers and Aides at the Presidency have donated 50% of their three-months salary to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund.

This has been disclosed by Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin who in a Facebook post noted that the move is to help the President’s commitment in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Akufo-Addo while presenting his 4th address to the Nation on Friday, 27 March announced that he has forfeited his three months salary for the Fund which has been set up to assist the needy and vulnerable who will be affected by the pandemic in any way.

The move was seconded by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who also donated his three-months salary after the President’s announcement for the same cause.

The latest to join are not only Ministers of State and Presidential aides but also Deputy Ministers who have also agreed to donate 50% of their two-month salaries to the fund.

According to Eugene Arhin, the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare has notified the Controller and Accountant General to commence action on the pledges and transfer the accrued monies to the State fund.

“All Ministers of State, the Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, the deputy Chiefs of Staff, Secretary to the President, Secretary to the Cabinet, Presidential Staffers and Presidential Aides at the Presidency have decided to donate fifty per cent (50%) of their salaries, for the next three months, ie. April, May and June, to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund, established by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for the fight against the virus and to assist in the welfare of the needy and the vulnerable

“All Deputy Ministers have also agreed to donate fifty per cent (50%) of their salaries for the next two months, ie. April and May, into the Fund. As a result, the Chief of Staff, Hon Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, has notified the Controller and Accountant General to effect these deductions at source for the period, and transfer the accrued monies into the fund,” Eugene Arhin wrote on Facebook.
