President Akufo-Addo addressing the nation on the progress that has been made, after imposing a lockdown on some cities in the Ashanti and Greater Accra regions said the government will in the next few days, take a firm decision on the extension of a lockdown.

According to President Akufo-Addo, that decision will be informed by the results of some 19,000 tests that have been conducted as a result of the enhanced contact tracing exercise.

In a televised broadcast on Sunday, April 5, 2020, the President said the decision to be arrived at, will be driven by science and available data.

The two-week lockdown was put in place following the surge in the country’s coronavirus cases.

Since the government closed all borders, some 1,030 travellers into Ghana were quarantined on March 21 and 22 March.

Of them, 105 tested positive for coronavirus, he said while 925 have under two tests which all turned negative.

The president said of this figure, about 804 have been released to the families with the others expected to also go home.

This is the president’s fifth address to the nation since it began recording coronavirus cases.
