President of the Ghana Agriculture Chamber of Commerce, Philip Abayori, has assured Ghanaians that food commodities are abundant in the country, thus, food should not be a worry.

Speaking with Happy FM’s Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, he revealed that there has not been shortage of foodstuff in the country as it seems.

He explained this saying, “There are a lot of foodstuffs on the farms but due to the lockdown, a lot of cars were not operating hence, we could not send out enough foodstuff. That is the reason for the shortage and high costs on the market, but food should not be a problem for Ghanaians”.

This clarification comes after the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Owusu Afriyie Akoto, stated in his press briefing yesterday that food items are in abundant in the country and that there has not been price increment.

However, Philip promised Ghanaians that now that the lockdown has been lifted, they will be sending out more foodstuff and hopefully, food prices should go back to normal once these food items reach the markets.

Philip Abayori urges that this is the time that Ghanaians need to put in more work in the agricultural sector, to increase production and boost patronage of local goods.
