I will resign if Dr. Bawumia is used as a standard to choose our running mate – Peter Otokunor

The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otokunor has asserted that the running mate his party will choose for its presidential candidate is a far better economist and individual than the sitting Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to him, if the sitting Vice President is used as a yard stick for choosing the NDC’s running mate he will resign from his position as the Deputy General Secretary of the party.

He made this comment in an interview on Happy 98.9 FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political talk show with Afrifa Mensah.

When asked by host, Afrifa-Mensah if the NDC has taken long to declare its running mate because the party is finding it difficult to find a formidable individual to match the Vice President, the politician mentioned that it would be a shame for the NDC to even consider someone of the same caliber as the current vice president for their running mate. “Are you trying to demean our party? Look at the intellectuals in our party, they are all better than the sitting Vice President.”

Peter noted that incidentally, Dr. Bawumia is not even a yard stick at all to whom the ex-President Mahama is contemplating on for his running mate. “He is far better than Dr. Bawumia.”

The NDC Deputy General Secretary noted that even the ruling government does not regard the Vice President anymore as he has become a dysfunctional part in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) machinery.

On his authority, the Vice President of the country has now moved from being an economist to an IT professional because the former has proved to be an impossible task for him. “Dr. Bawumia is no more an economist. He has now become an IT professional because it a more easy and convenient area for him. We already have specialist in that field making things easier for him.”

Cementing his position, the pointed out the fact that the poor economic management system put in place by the Dr. Bawumia has destroyed the sound and thriving economy the NDC left Ghana when leaving power in 2016. “The economy we left is way better than that of the present gov’t. Our current account balance as a country is negative and I dare the NPP to campaign with the economy.”

There has been an increasing call for the major opposition party, NDC to unveil its running mate for their Presidential candidate, ex-President Mahama. Despite these calls the NDC has failed to name its running mate.

This has got a lot of Ghanaians, especially the ruling government, saying that the opposition is unable to name their running mate because they cannot find anyone who can stand toe to toe with the sitting Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
