Deputy Minister of Information, Pius Enam Hadzide has asserted that it is actually good news for the country to have recorded its current COVID-19 case count.

According to him, this number could have been much higher had the government not put in place aggressive measures to control the spread.

The Minister made this comment in an interview with Happy 98.9 FM’s Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show. “Our current case count is good news because of the government’s contact tracing and treatment protocols. And this has really helped us.”

On his authority, if the compulsory quarantine and aggressive contact tracing had not been done, there would have been over 3,000 COVID-19 asymptomatic patients still moving around and infecting other citizens. Pointing to the fact that the country’s case count would have been exponentially higher.

He noted that the lockdown, which was imposed on the country some weeks ago helped them to achieve this feat and that the infection rate would not have reduced had the lockdown still being in effect. “The lockdown was meant for an objective which we achieved. And even with the lockdown lifted, our infection rate is reducing,” he said.

As at today, the COVID-19 case count in the country stands at 7,303 accompanied with 34 deaths and 2,412 recoveries.
