Some dissenting members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) recently took radical steps such as invoking curses on party hierarchy to express their displeasure for the disqualification of their preferred candidates.

For example, it was reported that some dissenting members in Juaben Constituency slaughtered a sheep and invoked curses on the party’s ranks for the purported disqualification of their preferred candidate — Francis Owusu-Akyaw — in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

Commenting on this occurrence, New Patriotic Party Parliamentary hopeful for Akwatia Constituency, Ernest Yaw Kumi, has expressed his displeasure by stating that what happened was not in line with best practices.

In an interview on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, he pleaded with all those involved to desist from such acts in order to maintain the unity of the party. He added that if anyone had any grievances, there were appropriate channels to address these grievances.

“It is not in line with best practice to invoke curses in politics. We will plead with our people that be it as it may, there are grievance processes. We plead with them to keep themselves away from that. If you want to serve someone, you don’t need to kill yourself. If the people want you they will give you the nod. Let’s unite the party for victory”, he added.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the party, John Boadu has announced that dissenting NPP members who invoked curses on the party will be suspended.
