The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has announced the arrest of four individuals for engaging in the sale of illicit drugs at a sanitation area behind the Ashtown Post Office in Kumasi.
The arrests were carried out on Monday, March 16, 2026, by the Assembly’s internal Security Task Force.
The suspects, whose identities have been withheld, have been handed over to the police at the Kumasi Central Station for further investigations.
Items retrieved during the operation include substances suspected to be Indian hemp, a locally manufactured pistol, packs of cigarettes, hard drugs, boxes of “Mashallah” (Ataya), cash, and other materials believed to be harmful.
In a statement issued by its Public Relations Unit on Tuesday, March 17, the Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law, order, and public safety within the metropolis.
It also urged residents to support ongoing efforts by reporting suspicious activities and cooperating with authorities to help keep the city safe.
The statement emphasized the Assembly’s resolve to clamp down on criminal activities and ensure a secure environment for all residents.
