Abednego Tettey reveals his time in the Ghana Premier League is over

Bibiani GoldStars forward, Abednego Tettey, has been making headlines due to his choice to retire from professional football, a decision believed to be influenced by his continuous exclusion from the Ghanaian senior national team, the Black Stars.

Despite scoring 18 goals in the previous season of the Ghana Premier League and winning the Golden Boot award, Abednego was excluded from the squad for Ghana’s AFCON Qualifiers matches in Madagascar and the home game against the Central African Republic.

The player expressed his frustration over repeatedly being overlooked for the Black Stars, despite consistently demonstrating his skills while playing for his club, Bibiani GoldStars, in the league.

However in an exclusive interview on Happy FM, the former Hearts of oak forward revealed his decision to quit playing in the Ghana League,”Despite scoring 18goals last season, when it got to my turn to called into the Black Stars, I was told that there were plans already made for Hafiz Konkoni, who was at Bechem Unted. So I should wait and I did, I wished him well and this time around again I wasn’t called so I don’t know what I’ve done to the Ghana Football Association”.

In 2016, Tetteh had a breakout season with Bechem United in the Ghana Premier League, playing 24 matches, scoring 13 goals, and providing 5 assists. He also helped his team win the Ghanaian FA Cup that year. Following this success, he transferred to Sudanese club Al-Hilal Club, where he won the Sudan Premier League in 2017. Tetteh later had stints with Jimma Aba Buna in Ethiopia and returned to Sudan with Al-Hilal El-Obeid. Afterward, he moved to India, initially joining Real Kashmir and later playing for TRAU.

Abednego Tettey joined Bibiani GoldStars in 2021 after having his contact terminated by the Phobians. He penned a one-year deal and didn’t renew his contract with the club as he sets sight on greener pastures outside the Ghana League.

The 2023/24 Ghana premier League season is scheduled to begin on Friday 15 September.
