Representing West Texas A&M University, Abugire capped her freshman season with a national title in the 800m at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Pueblo, Colorado. She clocked a blistering 2:02.93, breaking her own school record and securing the Lady Buffs a share of fourth place in the team standings.

Her rise has been rapid and relentless. In January, she shattered the school’s indoor 800m record at the Red Raider Invitational with a time of 2:07.19, earning her the Lone Star Conference Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award. She followed that up in February by breaking her own record again at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, running 2:06.34 to finish 21st overall in a field of 211 athletes.

Abugire’s consistency and composure have made her a standout in both individual and team events. She was part of the Lady Buffs’ 4x400m relay team that earned All-American honors with an eighth-place finish at the national championships.

With her remarkable freshman year, Abugire has not only elevated her own profile but also brought national attention to West Texas A&M’s growing track and field program.

As she looks ahead to the rest of her collegiate career, Abugire’s trajectory suggests even greater accomplishments on the horizon.
