The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ablekuma Central, Frank Nkansah, has warned that individuals who refuse to comply with sanitation regulations within the municipality will face strict punishment including public lashing.
Speaking in an interview with Bismark Brown, popularly known as BB, on Happy 98.9 FM’s Happy On Wheels at Abossey Okai on Thursday, July 31, Mr. Nkansah expressed concern about the poor state of sanitation in Ablekuma Central, which he attributed to the irresponsible behavior of some residents.
He noted that many citizens ignore basic sanitation rules by littering indiscriminately and connecting their bathroom and toilet drainage directly into main gutters, thereby posing serious public health risks.
Mr. Nkansah warned that the municipal assembly would begin taking firm action against offenders. In addition to legal penalties, he revealed that some individuals who refuse to comply with sanitation regulations may be subjected to public discipline, including corporal punishment.
“We will not hesitate to lash some of those who continue to disregard sanitation laws. This will serve as a strong warning to others engaging in similar unhygienic practices,” he stated.
The MCE urged residents to take collective responsibility for maintaining a clean and healthy environment, adding that the municipality will continue its efforts to enforce sanitation by-laws to protect public health.
