The Ghana Police Service has assured residents and voters in the Ablekuma North constituency of its full preparedness to maintain law and order during the parliamentary rerun scheduled for Friday, July 11.
Speaking to the media, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kofi Sarpong, Commander for Odorkor, emphasized that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the entire service are mobilized for a peaceful electoral process.
“The IGP is ready, and the police service is fully prepared to ensure law and order during tomorrow’s rerun,” he stated.
ACP Sarpong, whose jurisdiction covers the affected polling stations, said he has been personally inspecting the locations to ensure smooth operations.
“As the police commander for Odorkor, I am going round. The polling stations are under my jurisdiction. I need to ensure that things are in order and also ensure that we have a peaceful election”.
He urged all eligible voters to comply with electoral guidelines and avoid any form of misconduct.
“We admonish everybody to follow the electoral rules and regulations. If you fall within the areas, come join the queue, vote, and go home”.
The rerun, ordered by the Electoral Commission, involves 19 polling stations and follows months of legal and political disputes over the December 2024 parliamentary election results.
Security arrangements have been intensified amid heightened political tensions and calls for calm from both major parties.
