The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has announced its intention to withdraw its support from all activities of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), citing alleged irregularities in GUTA’s recent elections.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Happy 98.9 FM’s Happy Morning Show with Fati Shaibu-Ali, the Public Relations Officer of the association, Takyi Addo, explained that GUTA is made up of executives drawn from more than 80 trade associations who come together to promote the welfare of traders nationwide.

Mr. Addo stressed that the association’s decision is not meant to undermine GUTA’s work but to address what he described as growing illegality within the union.

He pointed out that GUTA’s constitution requires that any individual contesting for a position must first be endorsed by their respective association, a provision he said was violated during the recent elections.

According to him, the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association was sidelined in the electoral process and was not consulted to endorse any candidate, an action he described as a clear violation of their rights as a member association.

He further alleged that GUTA is increasingly becoming a “recycling company,” with the same executives merely rotating positions among themselves.

Mr. Addo revealed that the association had earlier confronted GUTA’s leadership and gave them a two-week ultimatum to engage them before the elections were held, but their concerns were ignored.

As a result, he said, the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has resolved to withdraw its support and participation in all GUTA activities until the issues are addressed.
