Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo mocked his colleagues on the Minority side for abruptly abandoning their protest at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and returning to the chamber for parliamentary proceedings.
The Minority had staged a walkout on May 29 to protest the continued detention of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
They vowed to remain at EOCO until his release.
However, their return to Parliament just a day later raised eyebrows.
Adongo, speaking in a light-hearted tone on the floor of parliament, did not miss the opportunity to tease his colleagues.
“I think Wontumi will be very, very sad that you are here talking. He was expecting you to sleep at EOCO with him,” Adongo remarked.
He continued, “You abandoned him to sleep there. And today, you promised the people of Ghana that you have abandoned this chamber, but you are here making a lot of arguments.”
Adongo further ridiculed the Minority MPs, suggesting their protest lacked sincerity.
“You people should tell Wontumi that his people are deceiving him. He is sleeping there alone, and you are here arguing for more holidays”.
Referring to the protest itself, Adongo pointed out that the Minority’s commitment had waned by the evening.
“We were surprised when they were sitting on the floor in front of EOCO yesterday, but when we went there at 7pm, they had disappeared”.
