AFCON 2021: Gabon risks being disqualified from the competition

Gabon has been attracting attention for several days. His captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been entangled for weeks in an endless showdown with his club Arsenal London which ended up dispossessing him of the team’s captain’s armband. Then, his two biggest stars, the same Aubameyang and Mario Lemina, tested positive for Covid-19 on their arrival in Cameroon with a drunken and unframed outing in a nightclub in Dubai. But one last case risks costing them disqualification from CAN 2021

The delegation refused to settle in the hotel reserved for them and chose a different one.

In an email from which Camfoot received a copy sent to the SG of their federation, Raymond Hack, the President of the Disciplinary Jury of CAF , explains having ”  taken note of the violation of CAF Rules, Regulations and Directives committed by your Delegation in within the framework of the Total Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon, 2022  ”.

He continues that the list of hotels and training sites had been sent to the teams on August 16, 2021 according to multiple criteria …

If on January 4, Gabon informed that its delegation was going to be accommodated at the Star Land Hotel, the change request was refused by email with a brief explanation of the reasons for the refusal

“However, today morning, we were surprised to learn that your delegation went against CAF’s instructions and provided accommodation for your team at the Star Land hotel.

Therefore, you are kindly requested to provide us with an explanation of this violation by 11:00 tomorrow morning. After which the case will be submitted to the Disciplinary Jury of CAF “.

Gabon is therefore warned. His period of bad news is likely to lengthen.
