Ohene-Bampoe Brenya Writes: Are The Black Stars facing another “Bouake Disaster” or “Yaoundé massacre”?
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

Ghana faces a crucial test tonight against Mozambique in a bid to avoid a second consecutive group-stage exit at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars, who suffered an early exit two years ago, find themselves in a precarious position after securing just one point from their initial two matches.

The pressure mounted on Ghana after a defeat to Cape Verde, and despite taking the lead twice against Egypt, they could only manage a draw, leaving them with significant ground to cover.

A victory against Mozambique in their final Group B match would elevate Ghana to four points. While this might not guarantee direct advancement to the knockout stages, it would likely secure a place as one of the four best third-placed teams.

Mozambique, currently at the bottom of the group but level on points with Ghana, is eager to capitalize on this opportunity and secure a spot in the last 16 for the first time.

Date, Kick-off Time, and Venue

The clash between Mozambique and Ghana is scheduled for an 8 pm kick-off today, Monday, January 22, 2024, at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Mozambique vs. Ghana Team News

Lau King and Domingues, substitutes in Mozambique’s previous match against Cape Verde, are vying for spots in the starting lineup against Ghana. Mozambique altered their formation in the last game, introducing a back three led by Atletico Madrid’s Reinildo, and it remains to be seen if they will maintain this system.

For Ghana, the return of Mohammed Kudus from a hamstring injury is a significant boost, as he contributed two goals in the draw with Egypt. Kudus, showing no setbacks in the previous match, is expected to start again.

Inaki Williams, who made a crucial error leading to Egypt’s opening goal, might retain his place in the side. However, the performance of Osman Bukari is under scrutiny after struggling upon coming on as a substitute, ultimately being withdrawn by manager Chris Hughton after just 15 minutes on the pitch.
