‘AFFAIL MONNEY MUST FIGHT FOR JOURNALISTS’

Kwame Afrifa-Mensah, host of Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben?’ show, has hit hard at Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) president Affail Monney for cautioning investigative journalists not to embark on a smear campaign against private businesses.
Mr Afrifa-Mensah urged the GJA boss to rather defend the interest of journalists and not to dishearten them.
“This is the time for you to fight for journalists. You need to speak for people like William Gantu and the 36 employees that were laid off by TV3 for demanding for a pay rise among others, ” he said.
Mr. Affail Monney had earlier in a statement warned journalists against the use of the media as a tool for propounding campaign against individuals who have made huge contributions toward the growth of the economy as well as the indigenous companies.
But Kwame Afrifa-Mensah ridiculed the claims of the GJA boss, saying that he should rather use his position to fight for journalists.
The current affairs host went on to say that journalists don’t have anybody to speak on their behalf, but on the contrary they rather speak for the public.
“Nobody speaks on our behalf concerning our salaries and issues regarding to us. But we (journalists) are the ones that speak on behalf of the interest of the public. Journalists will quickly cover people who are picketing for poor remuneration and bad working conditions but no one speak the,” he added.
Some Journalists have suffered assaults from the public in recent times but the culprits went free.
