African Games : It is not the Ministry’s fault - Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif on cycling equipment saga

Ghana’s Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, has blamed the Cycling Federation for the equipment debacle at the African Games.

He stated, “The Ministry and the Local Organizing Committee requested all the Federations to submit their requirements.”

Over the weekend, During the cycling event , national champion Michael Naaba withdrew from the competition due to a faulty bicycle.

Explaining the situation, Ussif said, “If you’re the Cycling Federation, and you knew that you needed fibre made bicycles and not aluminium bicycles, it is your responsibility to submit your list to us and we will get them.”

He emphasized that they would have procured the necessary equipment if requested.

Despite criticism aimed at the Sports Ministry and the Local Organizing Committee, Ussif defended their actions during Monday’s press conference at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
