The National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA) has declared the Akwatia Constituency a strict no-go zone for weapons, warning that any individual found with arms, lethal or non-lethal will face arrest and prosecution.
In a press release dated August 24, 2025, NACSA emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on firearms, knives, tasers, pepper spray, and other improvised weapons during the electoral process.
“Our democracy must never be held hostage by violence or intimidation. Anyone found with a weapon will be dealt with swiftly and decisively.”
The Commission urged political leaders to promote peaceful participation and condemned the use of arms or threats as a means of gaining political advantage.
“Ghana’s democratic progress is a beacon in the sub-region. We must protect it by rejecting inflammatory rhetoric and unlawful possession of firearms.”
NACSA assured the public of its collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, Electoral Commission, National Security Council, and civil society groups to ensure a peaceful by-election.
The Akwatia seat became vacant following the sudden death of MP Ernest Yaw Kumi on July 7, 2025, due to a brief illness and suspected cardiac complications.
