A cross-section of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in the Akwatia Constituency of the Eastern Region is rallying behind former Member of Parliament Mercy Adu Gyamfi, popularly known as Ama Sey, as the party’s candidate for the upcoming by-election.
The group is appealing to the party leadership to adopt Ama Sey as the NPP’s flagbearer, citing her strong grassroots appeal and proven track record during her tenure in Parliament.
Speaking to the media, campaign coordinator for Ama Sey, Kwasi Azor Fredrick Kwame Gyekye, confirmed the growing calls for her return, stating that her popularity within the constituency remains unmatched.
“Ama Sey enjoys massive goodwill. Her development initiatives and support for entrepreneurs during her term as MP continue to resonate with the people,” he said.
He added that while other individuals may express interest in contesting the seat, Ama Sey represents the party’s best hope of retaining it.
“We are urging party leadership to listen to the base. The people want Ama Sey, and she is the best chance we have to win,” Mr. Gyekye emphasized.
Ama Sey previously served as MP for Akwatia from 2017 to 2021.
