The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council has revealed plans to petition Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin over alleged derogatory remarks made about the late Dr. Joseph Boakye Danquah.

The council is concerned about comments attributed to Hon. Murtala Mohammed, who allegedly described Dr. JB Danquah as a traitor and a CIA operative.

They consider these remarks offensive and inappropriate, given Danquah’s contributions to Ghana’s independence struggle.

As part of their response, the Kyebi Apapamuhene and warlord of Akyem Abuakwa, Osabarima Okogyeaman Apagya Fori IV, led a libation ceremony at JB Danquah’s grave in Kyebi.

He confirmed that the council will officially present its petition to the Speaker of Parliament on March 7.

The youth of Okyeman have also expressed their displeasure over the comments and have pledged their support to the traditional council.

They are demanding a retraction of the remark and an unqualified apology from the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central.

They insist that the apology should be directed to the people of Akyem Abuakwa, JB Danquah’s family, and the nation as a whole.
