Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that all 16 regions in Ghana will have operational passport application centres by December 2025.

He revealed that the first of these new centres will be launched this month in Bolgatanga, as part of a broader effort to decentralise passport services and enhance nationwide accessibility.

The Minister made the announcement during a ceremony where diplomatic passports were presented to five distinguished Ghanaians: travel vlogger Wode Maya, Grammy-nominated reggae artist Rocky Dawuni, broadcaster and entrepreneur Anita Erskine, contemporary visual artist Ibrahim Mahama, and British-Ghanaian entrepreneur Dentaa Amoateng MBE.

Mr. Ablakwa highlighted recent improvements in passport service delivery, noting that reforms within the Foreign Affairs Ministry have significantly streamlined the process. Applicants can now receive their passports more quickly through courier services, eliminating the need to return to collection centres.

“The Ministry has become highly efficient, and many Ghanaians are already experiencing a smoother process. Passports are being delivered in record time, right to their doorsteps,” he said.

“However, seven regions still lack passport application centres. I am pleased to announce that by December 2025, we will ensure every region has one—beginning with Bolgatanga this month,” Mr. Ablakwa added.
