Police summons Abronye DC over Coup allegation

Communication team member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Haruna Amaliba, has expressed dissatisfaction at the accusation of former President Mahama planning a coup.

He believes that, media stations have the absolute power to restrain people from making such comments and if made, have the right to distance themselves from such provocative statements.

The NDC spokesperson believes that regardless of the heated political activities in the country, such accusations are extreme and coordinated.

“I blame some of our journalists. The host of the station offered the platform and should be questioned too. When we are invited to media stations and we are making statements you believe are dangerous and problematic, caution us. When I frown upon the warning then you issue a disclaimer to disassociate yourself from such words. So when there’s an issue I’ll be the only person held responsible for my words. But while he was degrading President Mahama and raising false allegations against him, the host did not caution him or make an attempt to draw his attention to the fact that his words would be chaotic,” he said during an interview with Don Kwabena Prah on Happy98.9 FM’s Epa Hoa Daben.

“We cannot sit in this country with such attitudes and expect to progress. If we are to follow this kind of reckless path that the NPP is leading we would certainly lose focus as a nation. The animosity and political polarization will reign in this country,” he added.

Annabila also advised political activists to use every platform given as an opportunity to discuss and debate socio-political issues that can bring about progress and change in the Ghanaian community.

His statements come at the back of a recent accusation levelled on former President Mahama by the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe alias Abronye DC. He alleged the former President was planning a coup with the Al-Qaeda terrorist group.

He has since been invited by the Police, arraigned before court and granted a GHc100,000 bail with two sureties after pleading not guilty for publication of false news, offensive conduct and breach of peace.
