The leader of the Israel King of Jews Church, Nakoa Nazareth Ansah Jamson, has expressed hope in the parliament of Ghana to do what is right in the passing of the anti-gay bill.
He posited that God has put them in high positions to glorify his name. Hence, taking any decision that may seem like a rebellion against God will attract devastating consequences.
He shared these thoughts during an interview on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show with Don Prah.
“Parliament will do what is right. We sent them there. We believe in our parliament, ministers and churches. They know God has led them there and can’t rebel against God.
We can’t do wrong and expect right. Ghana will not do that. Our MPs are intelligent. We are not ruled by the whites’ constitution,” he said.
Speaking on the stance of spiritual chances on the issue of LGBTQ+, he explained that they have been against the acts of the community since time immemorial.
Giving a notable example, he shared that about ten years ago, his church had included in their constitution that LGBTQ+ is forbidden in the church. Nonetheless, they try to correct these persons using God’s word. He added that only unrepentant ones are expelled.
Earlier this year, the Speaker of Parliament received a private member bill from some MPs that would expand on the current law that provides up to three years in prison for same-sex activity.
Reports has it that the new bill when passed will prohibit and criminalize advocacy, funding and act of LGBTQ+ while promoting conversion therapy programs seeking to “convert” people from homosexuality to heterosexuality.
Meanwhile, fifteen renowned legal, academic and civil society professionals have filled a memorandum challenging the anti-gay legislation submitted to Parliament.
In the memorandum, they contend that the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021, which seeks to criminalize LGBTQ+ and adjacent activities, is an “impermissible invasion of the inviolability of human dignity.”
Some Christian leaders, on the other hand, have submitted a memorandum to Parliament on the Proper Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, endorsing the bill.
