Asamoah Gyan must apologize to Kwesi Appiah and his teammates – Jerome Otchere

Veteran sports journalist and editor of Kotoko Express, Jerome Otchere, has expressed his displeasure at the way Asamoah Gyan handled the Black Stars captaincy issue that has been trending over the past two days.

Jerome Otchere has therefore called on the ‘Kayserispor’ striker to apologize to the Black Stars head coach, his teammates and the whole nation for his decision to retire from the national team.

Speaking to Ohene Bampoe-Brenya on Happy FM’s ‘Anopa Bosuo Sports’, the veteran sports journalist implored Gyan to apologize if he wants to return to the national team.

“Asamoah Gyan overacted about this captaincy issue. He reacted out of anger which shouldn’t be the case. If he wants to come back after speaking with the president, then so be it. But the authority of coaches must be respected and Asamoah Gyan must render an unqualified apology to Kwesi Appiah, his teammates and Ghanaians if he returns,” he stated.

“Depending on how the apology will be rendered and how the coach and Ghanaians accepts it. We can move on from there if he sincerely apologizes because people love Asamoah Gyan. I don’t even think this is an issue for the president to come in. But he is leader of the country so he has the right to intervene when things are going wayward.”

Media reports suggest that Black Stars striker, Asamoah Gyan has rescinded his earlier decision to retire from the national team after a lengthy chat with President Nana Akufo-Addo on Tuesday.

An official statement confirming his comeback into the national team is expected in the next few hours.
