Asante Kotoko: Communications Dir. confirms investigation into referee abuse; culpable individuals to be handed over to Police

Asante Kotoko’s Communications Director, Nii Darko, has confirmed an official investigation into the alleged abuse of referee Robert Musey and his officiating team by individuals associated with the club.

This revelation comes in the wake of a disturbing incident during halftime of the match between Dreams FC and Kotoko, casting a dark shadow over Ghanaian football.

The incident, which unfolded following Dreams FC’s dramatic victory in the match, has raised significant concerns regarding the safety and security of match officials in the sport. The game had already been marred by controversy, with tensions running high on and off the pitch.

During the second half of the match, reports indicated that unidentified individuals had forcibly entered the referee’s dressing room, creating a hostile and unsafe environment. This raised fears of the match being abandoned, further underlining the seriousness of the situation.

The motive behind this alarming attack remain unclear, leaving many within the football community perplexed. This incident adds to the growing tension surrounding Asante Kotoko’s season, marked by a series of winless matches, fan unrest, and doubts about the future of Coach Prosper Ogum.

In light of these events, Nii Darko’s confirmation of the investigation is of paramount importance.

Asante Kotoko is committed to ensuring the safety and integrity of football matches and all participants. Individuals found culpable in the investigation will be handed over to the police for appropriate legal action.
