Veteran Sports journalist, Osei Owusu Bempah has weighed in on the news that has been making waves in the football world – the appointment of Kwesi Appiah as the head coach of the Sudan national football team.

In an interview on Happy FM, he expressed his views on the matter, emphasizing the importance of this opportunity for Appiah.

“This is a huge job opportunity, and I don’t think the Otumfuo or authorities of the club will try to prevent Kwesi Appiah from accepting the offer just because he has other duties to Asante Kotoko. He is not the first person to have duties with a club and manage another. I believe if he wants to accept the job opportunity, he should be allowed.”

Kwesi Appiah, known for his stints as the head coach of the Ghana national team, is a respected figure in African football. His appointment as the Sudan national team’s head coach raised questions about his dual responsibilities with Asante Kotoko. However, Owusu Bempah’s perspective sheds light on the possibility of balancing these roles effectively.

It’s worth noting that Kwesi Appiah is one of the four members of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) established by club owner Otumfuo Osei Tutu II following the conclusion of the previous board’s tenure led by Dr. Kwame Kyei. This added layer of responsibility within the club’s hierarchy further complicates his decision.

Nonetheless, the Sudan Football Association (Sudan FA) made a significant announcement, revealing that Appiah, at the age of 63, will assume the role of the national team’s head coach. The experienced coach according to reports has signed a lucrative three-year contract, outlining a promising future for Sudanese football.
