Ace Football administrator, Kofi Manu, says Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold will represent Ghana in the next season’s Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Inter-club competition if the league is truncated.

There are ongoing discussions on whether the current football season will be cancelled and which teams will represent Ghana in Africa next season.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have been directed by CAF to make a decision before 5 May, 2020 on the future of the league.

Kofi Manu in an interview on Happy Sports explained that Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold can represent Ghana if the league is cancelled per the CAF rules on competitions.

The CAF rules on competition states that, “If for any reason, the national league of a federation did not take place, the federation in question has the right to submit the participation request of the same club(s) engaged having played the national league from the previous season.

“If the league is cancelled then this is simple, Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold will represent Ghana in Africa, he told Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy Sports on Happy 98.8FM.

“When Kotoko and Charles Kwabla Akunnor had a case, the Tier I competition was considered as the league by the ruling in CK AKunnor’s case and also to CAF. As it stands now Kotoko is the last season’s winner and according to the CAF rule the previous season’s winner can represent the country in the CAF competition. That is the same rule Kotoko used in participating in the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup”, he noted.

He added that should the Ghana Premier League be truncated it will be in line with FIFA’s advice for leagues to be canceled based on consultation with Health authorities in the country.

Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold represented Ghana in Africa last season in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.

Happy Sports got in touch with the General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr Justice Yankson and he advised that the football season should be truncated till September as there is no data to indicate that the coronavirus pandemic is over.
