The allodial family of the late President Prof John Evans Atta-Mills at Ekumfi Nanabin in the Ekumfi municipality of the Central Region has made demands for the immediate handing over of the body of the late first gentleman of the land for reburial in Cape Coast.

According to the family, they want their son buried with his late parents at a family cemetery located in the Cape Coast municipality.

Nana Obosuye, the Bermuhene of Ekumfi Nanabin, Amona, and Denkyira, who spoke on behalf of the family, described the noise about the demand for an autopsy report on what killed the late president as needless.

He questioned why the same people demanding the autopsy report for Prof Atta-Mills are not doing the same for former leaders such as Jerry John Rawlings, former Vice President Aliu Mahama, and Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur.

According to him, this is a calculated attempt to tarnish the hard-won image of a son of the Amona and Denkyira family.

He emphasised that what is important to the family is for the body to be exhumed and released to the family for reburial at the family burial ground, where the late father and mother, as well as brothers of the late president, were buried.

The Bermuhene of Ekumfi Nanabin made these demands in relation to the release of the body for reburial while speaking in an interview Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

He expressed the family’s displeasure with the happenings after the death of the late president and stated that the family has been quiet all these years to allow sleeping dogs to lie.

However, if some group of people cannot come to terms with that, it is their problem to deal with.

The family served notice that henceforth, they will not sit aloof for the image of the family to be dragged in the mud.

“Anyone who wants to know the family of the late president should come to Ekumfi Nanabin for clarity on who the allodial family members are and not some people fronting the corridors of power claiming to be membvers of the family,” he said.
He denied knowing the Queen mother who made the demand for the release of the autopsy when she met President Nana Akufo-Addo.

“As a family, they reconstructed the Asodwe park without notifying the family adding that they cannot access the burial grounds of the late president,” he concluded.
