The Office of The Attorney General has officially announced its exclusion from any form of cooperation with one Richard Jakpa regarding an ongoing court case of the Republic against Ato Cassiel Forson.

Forson(1st accused person) and Richard Jakpa(3rd accused person) are presently involved in an ambulance purchase trial.

In a press release issued by the Office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Justice on Thursday, addresssed allegations made by Richard Jakpa which were continually purported by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The office of the Attorney General indicates that the case which commenced in 2022 has steadily developed over the past year and has solely relied on the record of the impugned transaction which is the purchase of ordinary vans purported to be ambulances.

The office of the Attorney General emphasized its sovereignty and integrity, noting that no officer from the Attorney General has approached any of the accused persons for aid in obtaining evidence. “The Republic has never required or desired the cooperation of any of the accused persons in the matter, in which it has already succeeded in establishing a prima facie case against all the accused persons.”

However, the release signed by the Deputy Attorney -General and Minister for Justice, Alfred Tuah Yeboah reveals that the third accused has made several advancements towards the office of the Attorney General to engage in plea bargaining or plea negotiations which have been duly declined by the Office of the Attorney General. “It is rather the third accused who, by various letters dated 27h April, 2023, 16th May, 2023, 30th May, 2023 and 12th June, 2023, has proposed to the Republic through the Attorney-General to engage in plea bargaining or plea negotiations.” the release highlighted.

Other plans besides the negotiations, were pressures from several parties on the Attorney General, Mr. Godfred Yeboah Dame to discontinue the prosecution and a one on one confrontation by the 1st accused person to discontinue the case.

This allegation made by the NDC is considered by the Office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Justice as a grand scheme to eventually get the Attorney General to discontinue the case.

The release concludes by encouraging the public to discredit any of the allegations leveled against the Office of the Attorney General and reiterates the commitment and full focus of the Attorney General in the prosecution of the case.
