Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has committed to installing 50,000 CCTV cameras in key towns across Ghana to improve security and fight crime.

He announced this plan during a campaign event in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted that a study conducted by security agencies revealed the need for 50,000 CCTV cameras to adequately monitor all roads in regional and district capitals.

While acknowledging the government’s ongoing efforts to install CCTV cameras, he pointed out that many streets remain uncovered.

Additionally, Dr. Bawumia stressed the importance of a “Buy Ghana First” policy, which he believes will boost local businesses and create jobs for Ghanaians.

By increasing consumption of locally produced goods, he argued, businesses will grow, leading to more employment opportunities.

During his campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia met with the clergy, imams, and chiefs in the Ashongman Estate area. Dr. Bawumia also outlined the achievements of the NPP government and emphasized the need for enhanced security measures, including installing CCTV cameras.

“I called national security, and I said what will it take for Ghana to have CCTV on all the streets in all of our regional capitals and all of our district capitals so that we can see any crime that is taking place, we can at least have a clue.”

“So, they came back to me, and they said they need 50000 CCTV cameras, and they are going to get 50000 CCTV cameras, we are going to provide so that the police can have visibility for every movement because we don’t have many police officers”.

Former Speaker of Parliament Mike Ocquaye praised Dr Bawumia, highlighting his intellectual capabilities and contributions to the party.

“When there were controversies about election matters and we had gathered a lot of information, Frank Davis and others toiled but how to put the things together in an acceptable formula for court, that work was done by Dr. Bawumia, today he has another name called Mr. pink sheet.”

“All matters as to how we use the pink sheet to look after the controversies of the election, that was the man who stood in court. You could see the star in him but I say it’s a gift. If you don’t take advantage of such a gift, it’s your own cause.”
