Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Kwame Agyeman-Budu has pleaded with Ghanaians to exercise patience as the ECG is doing all they can to rectify the power outages that has hit parts of the nation as a result of an ongoing maintenance works.

In an interview on the Happy Morning Show aired on Happy 98.9FM, he revealed that the exercise was to clean out the gas pipes in order to improve service delivery.

According to him, the power cuts was unexpected as the company had made all the arrangements it needed to do whilst undergoing this maintenance. However, their backup failed them.

“We made all the arrangements we needed to do. However, we were met with unforeseeable situation we had no control over. We are doing everything within our power to fix this anomaly. The Ministry of Energy and Finance are doing everything within their powers to make sure we shorten this test. We are doing all we can to be able to do it first week in March.

The process we are taking is a normal procedure we have to take to clean out the pipes. We are pleading with Ghanaians to have patience with us. What we are doing is for the good of the country. We don’t want to wait till it’s beyond repair before doing something about it”, he said.

ECG in a recent release announced that there will be power cuts in some areas in Ghana beginning February 25th and expected to end February 28th,2020. The shortfall has been blamed on gas maintenance works that makes it impossible for reverse flow of gas from Takoradi to Thermal plants at Tema.
