Marvel blockbuster, ‘Black Panther’ has received seven nominations for this years Oscars including Best Picture; the first ever for a super hero movie.
Nominations for the 91st Academy Awards were released on Tuesday with ‘Black Panther’ ; the 18th Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, receiving seven nominations behind ‘Roma’ and ‘The Favorite’, who both had ten nominations.
The most sort after category i.e Best Picture category had a super hero movie nominated in it for the first time ever. None other than marvel movie ‘Black Panther’ achieved this historic feat.
Black Panther is a 2018 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name.
Black Panther became the first Marvel film with a predominantly black cast.
It was released theatrically in the United States on February 16, 2018 and became a critical and financial success noted for its cultural significance and for breaking numerous box office records around the world.
Black Panther grossed $700 million in the United States and Canada, becoming the third film ever to do so, and $646.8 million in other territories, for a worldwide box office total of $1.346 billion.
It became the second highest grossing film in the United States in 2018 behind Avengers: Infinity War, the third highest grossing film ever in the United States, the ninth highest grossing film of all time and the highest-grossing film by a black director.
