Germany-based forward Bryadon Manu admits he was surprised to learn of his call-up to the Black Stars for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Manu explained that he did not expect to be called up by head coach Charles Akonnor because he “hadn’t played much” at club level.
The 24-year-old was included in the squad for games against Ethiopia and South Africa because of the absence of some key players.
“It came like nothing, I was surprised because I thought it was fake, I didn’t believe it. The technical director (Bernhard Lippert) called to tell me and I was happy but still, I was like how?
“To be honest, I hadn’t played that much to earn the call-up but then I told myself maybe they had seen something in me that other people hadn’t seen,” Braydon Manu has shared.

He continued, “So this was the thing I said and after that Coach (CK Akonnor) called me, and step by step that was it. They told me they are watching me. And the next day Alex Asante was calling asking for my passport and told me they needed my passport because they wanted me to come to the National team.
“I was like wow, God is good, and I told him I am not having a passport. I only have a German passport.”
Manu watched on from the bench as the Black Stars beat Ethiopia in Cape coast and lost to South Africa at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg.
Manu has played a paltry 78 minutes out of the available 540 in Bundesliga II and Pokal Cup for Darmstadt this season.
